Apple announced today that it is discontinuing the 4GB model of the iPhone.  They have lowered the price to $299 for their remaining inventory of this short lived product.

Apple is also lowering the price of the 8GB iPhone to $399.  This is only $100 more than the new iPod touch with the same amount of storage capacity.

This begs the question is Apple planning to release a 16GB model of the iPhone for the holidays.  I guess time will tell.
