Ephesians 1:17-19
“[I pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart my be enlightened so that you will know wat is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.”
In this prayer we find the foundation of the Gospel. Paul is petitioning the God of the universe to give the church at Ephasus a revelation of Jesus Christ. The revelation that Jesus is the son of God is foundational in conversion and in a growing christian faith. Beloved, if we are to mature as lovers of God, we desperately need a revelation of Jesus.
There is an important thing that occurs along side the revelation of Jesus. We also find ourselves drawn into a fuller understanding of God and His kingdom. Paul highlights these additional aspects that we need to have understanding of in our spirits. These three things are:
- We will know the hope of His calling.
- We will know the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.
- We will know the surpassing greatness of His power towards us.
As a christian that is desiring to grow in your intimacy with Christ, we can pray this type of prayer and ask God to birth in us a revelation of His son and to give us wisdom and understanding concerning His kingdom. This type of revelation changes our hearts and transforms us into the children that He longs for us to be.
Not only should we pray this for ourselves, but we should also pray this type of spirit revealing prayer for those people we know that don’t have a relationship with the Lord. We can pray, like Paul did, that God would open the eyes of their hearts to the realness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the reality of His kingdom.
Prayer:
God, thank you for your Son. Thank you for revealing Jesus to my heart. I pray that you would give me a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Jesus. Help me to truly understand, in my heart, the reality of who He is. Open the eyes of my heart to understand the full reach of your kingdom and what it means when you tell me that I am your son. Jesus I pray that you would break forth in the lives of the people I know. Open their eyes to the reality of your throne. Reveal yourself to their hearts and save them by the power of your blood. Holy Spirit I ask you to use me to expand the Kingdom of God within my influence. Help me to be a vessel of impartation to those that I meet. I pray that you would use me to proclaim your gospel and that you would show up to glorify Jesus with the working of signs and wonders. I ask all these things in Jesus name. Amen.
